On Wednesday, the Council of Ministers approved the regulation to stop family reunification. In a few days, the regulation will be put into effect by the Main Committee. Applications may be submitted, but they will not be dealt with for the time being.
The coalition government has officially suspended family reunification for refugees in the Council of Ministers. Interior Minister Karner cites overload in education, the social system, and security as the reason.
Although applications can be submitted, they will not be dealt with with with exceptions at least in the next six months. In May, there were only 70 entries under the title of family reunification.
The scheme will soon enter into force. Interior Minister Karner (ÖVP) justified the measure by overloading the systems in Austria.
The temporary stop of family reunification for refugees is now becoming serious, and the Council of Ministers approved the relevant regulation on Wednesday.
