- Levita Almuete Ferrer, 64, who previously worked as a senior budget analyst at the State Department, admitted on Wednesday to unlawfully taking over $650,000 from the agency.
- Between March 2022 and April 2024, Ferrer misused her authorized access to a State Department bank account to fraudulently issue checks.
- She issued and endorsed 63 checks amounting to $657,347.50, with 60 made out to herself and three to another individual, then deposited all of them into her personal bank accounts.
- Under the terms of her plea deal, Ferrer committed to reimbursing the U.S. Government $657,347.50 and accepting responsibility for a forfeiture money judgment of an equal sum.
- Judge Christopher R. Cooper approved her guilty plea, and Ferrer faces a potential prison term of up to 10 years, with sentencing set for September 18, 2025.
