Grizzly bear found dead along highway in Grand Teton National Park
- A 5-year-old grizzly bear died after being hit by a vehicle in Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park near Highway 26 on Tuesday.
- The bear belonged to a well-known family whose mother died from a similar vehicle collision south of Jackson, Wyoming, in October last year.
- Park officials said the bear had been seen occasionally since weaning in 2022 but had no reported sightings this spring, and his body was found about 125 yards from the highway near the Buffalo Fork River.
- Wildlife authorities stated the driver was not speeding and ruled the death an accident, noting that the bear may have been dead several days before discovery.
- The death highlights ongoing risks to wildlife in the park and follows the loss of a bear widely regarded by tourists, biologists, and photographers for decades.
