Pam Bondi announces largest fentanyl seizure in US history
- Last month, federal law enforcement officials arrested 16 people and confiscated millions of fentanyl tablets, 11.5 kilograms of fentanyl in powder form, along with other illicit substances across six states in the western U.S.
- The operation targeted a large trafficking network led by Heriberto Salazar Amaya, who faces federal charges including conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and immigration violations.
- The week-long mission, coordinated by the DEA and involving multiple agencies, also seized large amounts of methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, firearms including ghost guns, cash exceeding $2.8 million, and vehicles.
- DEA Acting Administrator Robert Murphy announced that approximately three million fentanyl pills were confiscated in what is considered the most extensive fentanyl pill takedown so far, while Attorney General Pam Bondi described the operation as a landmark achievement in combating drug trafficking.
- Officials said the bust dismantled one of the most dangerous fentanyl trafficking organizations and removed millions of potentially lethal doses from communities across the western U.S.
